Top Internships in Orange County, CA

Orange County is famous for its tourism and entertainment, so it’s no surprise most of its internships are found in those industries. But its business climate is more diverse than you may think.

For decades, the O.C. has been the headquarters of Fortune 500 companies of varying industries, including insurance giant First American, tech distributor Ingram Micro, and the health industry's Pacific Life. In addition, regional offices of hardware manufacturers like Samsung and Toshiba are located here. Hundreds of internships are available in the cities where these companies are located: Anaheim, Santa Ana, Orange, and Huntington Beach.

The most coveted internships are in IT. The satellite communications, semiconductor, and software sectors have big clusters of opportunities. Broadcom Inc. has paid, full-time internships in RFIC/RF Systems Verification (optimizing cellular transceivers), and engineering (prototype chip/board screening and data collection). Want to work for a video game company instead? Try Blizzard Entertainment, which hires interns based on C and C++ expertise. PC maker Gateway Inc and router manufacturer Linksys also offer internships.

But IT internships are probably not as fun as those at Disneyland. The Walt Disney Company accounts for a big chunk of the county's 90,000 tourism jobs and its variety of opportunities is large, from the custodial to the highly technical. Some of the most competitive are in industrial engineering, recruitment planning and analysis, costuming and buying, and workforce planning and analysis.
